La Reserva de Sotogrande, first-class living and first-class golf in southern Spain

An important residential area in Sotogrande Alto (the elevated part of Sotogrande most famous for golf and panoramic views) is La Reserva de Sotogrande, consisting of the newest golf course in the resort and the exclusive properties that surround it.

The residential area is a gated community on 500 hectares of land at the very top of the estate. The name La Reserva was chosen because the protection and creation of a pristine natural environment was a priority in designing the infrastructure, which includes wide roads and pedestrian routes. The property area Los Cortijos de la Reserva includes individual luxury villas overlooking the course as well as terraced townhomes situated near the clubhouse, with communal gardens, a swimming pool, and all the luxury features one might expect from a Sotogrande home. There are also plots available, and those buying a property benefit from special conditions for club membership.

For its part, the 18-hole, Cabell Robinson-designed course opened in 2004. It features large fairways and a surface area of 72 hectares. A second course may be designed in the future. The stately clubhouse offers facilities for both members and non-members. The course itself is attracting serious players and events, such as the BMW amateur’s cup held here in August 2009.

Living in Sotogrande offers far more than golf opportunities: a well-attended bilingual school for children of primary and secondary age, beach and marina life, luxury hotels, shops, restaurants, tennis, an equestrian centre, and even championship class polo grounds have all contributed to the appeal of the resort.

In terms of the surrounding area, this location is highly desirable for a residential property investment, affording quick access to Marbella and Puerto Banús, three airports (Gibraltar, Jerez, and Málaga), as well as medical and administrative facilities in Algeciras and the Costa del Sol. In terms of places to see, Los Cortijos de la Reserva are well under a day’s drive to any of Andalusia’s beautiful and fascinating historic cities–Granada, Cordoba, Cádiz and Seville–and just a couple of hours from Morocco by taking the ferry from Algeciras or Tarifa, with or without a car. Many natural parks are also nearby that are ideal for adventures or romantic getaways.
